Nilia is an artwork using the medium of businesses, specifically the clothing businesses in the fashion industry to comment on the appropriation of design that occurs from high-end fashion to fast fashion. The lines between the two begin to blur within the digital space of Parallax Exhibition. From screenshotting the designs for each t-shirt from Vogue’s Spring 2020 Ready-To-Wear Collection to shoddy photoshopping and descriptions of the t-shirts, Nilia emcompasses romanticised consumerism. Just as ephmeral as fast fashion, there is only one t-shirt for each design, and just as questionable as online shopping, prices, size, and product are hit or miss. Enjoy your scavenger hunt through the website, and treat yourself to some retail therapy as we continue to practice social distancing!
